Leeds Girls Club is a personal dream of mine that has come to life. It came about based on my experiences living in the Beeston area of Leeds and observing young people from my community. Lots of them felt and expressed that they didn’t have much to do if they weren’t at school. Some of these young people were drawn to dangerous and criminal activities such as gang activity, drug use and violence.
I created Leeds Girls Club so that young women and girls would have a safe space where they could be themselves, learn new skills and find new friends. We aim to do this by using a member-centred approach in everything we do, including the activities we plan. We take their ideas, ambitions and interests on board so that we host relevant events and activities.
